If you’ve been on the hunt for a fresh take on denim that effortlessly blends comfort, versatility, and a little fashion-forward flair—let me introduce you to the wide-leg crop jean. This isn’t your everyday bootcut or trouser jean, but that’s exactly what makes it so great. It’s a standout style that, when styled right, can easily become your go-to pair for just about any occasion.
A wide-leg crop jean offers a level of versatility that makes them a wardrobe essential. They can be worn with sneakers or sandals for all your mom-duty errands, styled with cowboy boots for a fun western vibe, dressed up with heels for a polished, professional look, or paired with heeled booties for that effortless date night outfit.
I recently got my hands on two pairs from National Roper’s Supply (NRS). Both are the brand, Risen—one in a classic dark wash and another in a fun, light wash—and I’m breaking down everything you need to know about these styles.
This was my first time wearing Risen jeans, but I’d always heard that sizing down is a must. So, I went down a full size—and let me tell you, that was 100% the right move. I typically wear a size 7, but in Risen, a 5 fit perfectly. These jeans have fantastic stretch, but they don’t stretch out; they simply stretch to fit you. They’ve washed up wonderfully, and both pairs have already earned a spot in my regular rotation.
If you’re looking for a classic, polished take on the wide-leg crop, this is the pair for you. This high-rise, dark wash gives them a more professional look, making them perfect for the office or any setting where you want to look put together. Pair them with a sleek heel or a chic bootie, and you’ve got an effortlessly sophisticated outfit. They also feature great pockets (a must-have), and the cropped length hits just right.
Now, if you want a pair that’s a little more fun and fashion-forward, the light wash version is the way to go. While these aren’t technically barrel jeans, they feature those stylish barrel-style outside seams, which add a cool, elevated touch. These are also a high-rise fit. They’re still incredibly easy to style, and I find myself reaching for them constantly—whether it’s for a casual day out or a dressed-up date night. Like the dark wash pair, they have great pockets and the perfect crop length.
Honestly, you can’t go wrong with either of these styles. The dark wash is my go-to when I want a professional denim look, while the light wash has become my new mom-uniform-turned-date-night-jean.
And the best part? You can grab either of these styles (plus just about anything else at NRS) for 10% off with my code JESSIEJARVIS. So, if you’ve been debating whether to try a cropped wide leg jean, consider this your sign to go for it! You will not regret it!
Trust me—you’ll love them.
