When it comes to denim, I’m as picky as they come and buying denim has always a big challenge for me. After I had a baby, buying denim online–whether it was jeans, shorts, or tops–didn’t get any easier. I knew if I was struggling, there was a really good chance that other women were in the same boat. Meaning? There needed to find a better way to buy jeans!
After having a kid, my solo trips to town became fewer and fewer, so I started buying denim online. I quickly became frustrated with the process of spending hours in front of a screen finding the “perfect style”, waiting to receive them in the mail, only to find out that the fit or style of jean wasn’t exactly how it was portrayed. Couple those issues with the fact that one style of denim just doesn’t cut it where I come from, and jean shopping quickly became a task that made getting a root canal feel like a walk in the park.
All I wanted was to buy a pair of jeans from a place where someone had actually put on the same pair I had and written the equivalent of a journal entry about the fit, style, material, wash, and all the activities they’d personally wear those jeans for.
In 2019, I launched Denim Diary via Instagram, starting with all the in’s and out’s of my personal body type (talk about scary), what I was looking for in a pair of jeans, and my first review of the Lola Soho from Kimes Ranch. The positive response was OVERWHELMING! It seemed like every western woman was in the same boat I was and was so thrilled to have a place they could get a solid opinion before pulling the trigger on a new pair of jeans. After a couple of seasons, I let life and a few technical challenges get in the way of Denim Diary, so I haven’t been as diligent about sharing my insights—but that’s about to change.
The need for Denim Diary to have a larger platform where it’s easy to sift through reviews and styles is actually one of the primary reasons this site was created, and why I’ve been not-so-patiently waiting to share Denim Diary reviews this year.
I also wanted the opportunity of having more contributors under the Denim Diary umbrella, so that I able to showcase various denim styles and how those work on different body types. I’m the first to say that I’m personally not the greatest resource when it comes to petite styles, plus styles, or the need for extra-long inseams. But I know women who are, and I want to make Denim Diary a place that’s inclusive of all women and their body types!
I’ve been dreaming and scheming on this new and improved Denim Diary for a number of months, and I’m so excited for what’s in store! If you have any specific denim styles you’d like to see me (or others) review, you can drop those below in the comments or send them over in an email!
A few things to note about Denim Diary…we’ll call it the “not-so-fine, fine print” 😉

Love this idea! I have been very challenged to find jeans that are 100% cotton – the STIFF kind that doesn’t stretch but instead holds you in and shapes you in all the right places. Have you run across a source for these? (Other than Levis!)
Oh my gosh I love reading your denim diary starting. It’s just what I needed and your so real. Thank you!! Christina
